Terror victims meet Harry Potter star |
| January 22, 2010 @ 11:25am · 2 comments |
A group of Israeli victims of terror enjoyed dinner with Harry Potter star Emma Watson on Sunday.
The Israelis, visiting under the aegis of One Family, spotted Watson at The Grove in Watford. When one introduced himself to the actress, she left her friends to join their table, signing autographs and talking about her career.
One of the group, 20-year-old Ran Eliya, said: “Harry Potter is massive in Israel and we are all big fans. It was an amazing start to our respite trip with One Family to have dinner with Hermione on our first night. She was so nice to us and seemed interested in why we are here.”
One Family’s Andrew Alexander added: “The group is here for a week and will be meeting hundreds of people from our community. But I’m sure meeting Emma Watson will be the big highlight.”
The group’s itinerary also took in Buckingham Palace, an Arsenal game and a community lunch in Finchley with over 200 people. [Source] |

Emma the new Keira Knightley? |
| January 20, 2010 @ 5:47pm · 2 comments |
A new article has been posted about Emma, talking about how in-demand she is for fashion ad campaigns. The article is not particularly unique, in that everyone is talking about Emma, but there is one very interesting bit of information included!
Emma Watson set to be the new Keira Knightley
She's already a global star as Harry Potter's Hermione Granger.
Now experts say her classic but ethereal English beauty could make actress Emma Watson as in demand to model for leading fashion houses as Keira Knightley.
Watson's first fashion campaign, for Burberry, sent its sales soaring by 12 per cent in the final three months of last year to £380 million, smashing forecasts. Trench coats and handbags flew off the shelves after Watson was pictured with them. Burberry has signed her for a second season this spring/summer. The contract finishes in July.
Karl McKeever, brand director at Visual Consultancy, said: “I expect her to be extremely in demand. She could be the next Keira Knightley, who landed one of the Chanel contracts.”
Neil Saunders, consulting director at retail analysts Verdict, said: “Emma is girl-next-door with a twist.” But he warned: “She has to be careful. You need to be a very powerful celebrity to model for several simultaneously, or the impact can wane.” [Source]
If the contract finishes in July, does that mean Emma will also be shooting the Fall/Winter 2010 campaign for Burberry? This certainly has not been confirmed, but it will be interesting to find out! |
Emma is #55 of the AskMen.com Top 99 Women of 2010! |
| January 20, 2010 @ 2:12pm · 3 comments |
In the results of a poll recently conducted by AskMen.com, Emma took spot #55 in the Top 99 Women of 2010.
When casting began for the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone about 10 years ago, Emma Watson was only nine years old and studying at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. Thanks to her theater teacher, who directed casting agents to the budding actress, eight auditions later Emma Watson, along with her then future castmates Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, landed the leading roles that would soon change the course of their lives.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone went on to make $975 million worldwide, en route to becoming one of the most lucrative movies of all time. Watson reclaimed her role as bookworm Hermione for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which came out in July 2009. Prior to the opening of The Half-Blood Prince, the Potter flicks had already taken in over $4.5 billion worth of ticket sales. Watson recently wrapped up filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I (out in 2010) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (out in 2011).
Where will you see her post-Potter? University, no less. "Until something comes along that I feel as strongly about as I did Hermione -- like, I felt that it was life or death -- I don't want to act again," says the young actress. Watson won't be completely out of the limelight any time soon, and not just because Harry Potter films will be in theaters until 2011. Emma stars in Burberry's Autumn/Winter 2009 campaign, shot by none other than world renowned photographer Mario Testino.
